Biography   |   Representative Matters

Steven Morris

Steven Morris is a veteran trial lawyer, negotiator, and dispute resolver with four decades of experience guiding clients through high-stakes business, real estate, and insurance disputes. A founding partner at Quantum Law Group, he has earned a reputation for incisive advocacy, strategic judgment, and a commitment to achieving practical results both in and out of the courtroom.

Steven has successfully tried and resolved hundreds of matters in state and federal courts, including complex contract and partnership disputes, business “divorces,” real estate transaction and construction litigation, insurance coverage claims, and professional liability cases. His practice also includes advising high-net-worth clients on divorce matters involving business and real estate assets, and on structuring and enforcing marital settlement agreements.

A trained mediator as well as a litigator, Steven blends tenacity with diplomacy — helping clients navigate emotionally charged disputes and reach durable resolutions through negotiation, arbitration, or other alternative dispute processes, where appropriate. He is recognized not only for his courtroom skill, but for his ability to distill complexity, manage risk, and lead clients confidently through the most challenging phases of litigation ensuring they are supported at every stage of the process to withstand the rigors of litigation.

Steven earned his Juris Doctor from Southwestern University School of Law in 1986 and his B.S., cum laude, in Business Administration and Economics (emphasis in Real Estate and Finance) from California State University, Northridge. He is admitted to practice before all California state courts and the U.S. District Court for the Central District of California.

Representative Matters

Bank Accused of Manufacturing Defaults to Force Refinancing of $35+ Million Hotel Loan Portfolio
Quantum Law Group represents a family-owned portfolio of hotel operators in a lender liability action arising from a $35+ million commercial loan relationship with a regional bank. Despite decades of timely payments and significant over-collateralization, the bank retroactively declared non-monetary defaults following the death of the principal guarantor and during the COVID-19 recovery period. Discovery has revealed internal bank communications acknowledging no anticipated credit loss and reflecting a strategy to place the loan in retroactive default to increase the interest rate and sell the portfolio at near-par value. The clients were forced to refinance under severe time constraints with a pending default, resulting in more than $6 million in additional interest, fees, and credit harm. The firm is prosecuting claims for breach of contract, breach of the covenant of good faith and fair dealing, and other causes of action.

Lenox v. Miller, Los Angeles Superior Court
Quantum Law Group LLP obtained a jury verdict of over $5,069,001 in a case where Plaintiff was seriously injured when defendant struck him in a private drive at a facility in which Plaintiff was head of security. Defendant contended he was threatened by plaintiff and fleeing for his life. Based upon video, direct testimony of both Plaintiff and Defendant, and other evidence, Plaintiff demonstrated to the jury that Defendant acted recklessly and with malice when he accelerated his Porsche at full speed in the direction of Plaintiff, struck him, and fled the scene. The jury found Defendant acted with malice.

Defendants filed an answer denying any wrongdoing. The case was resolved by all parties in a confidential settlement without requiring trial.

Brunochelli v. Joe, PHP Agency, LLC, Accordia Life and Annuity Company, et al, Los Angeles Superior Court
The firm filed suit on behalf of Plaintiffs who were small business owners who sued Defendants contending they had fraudulently sold a premium financed life insurance package claiming it would cost them little and provide for early retirement, but in reality wiped out Plaintiffs’ life savings and left them in difficult financial condition. Defendants denied any wrongdoing. The case was resolved by all parties in a confidential settlement without requiring trial.
